Marker of cytolysis and liver and biliary tract dysfunction
Gamma-glutamine transpeptidase (GGTP) is an enzyme that is localized mainly at the level of the cytoplasmic membrane of cells lining cavities with secretory or absorptive functions. Decreases in the specific activity of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase in tissues are located in the following sequence: kidneys, liver, pancreas, and small intestine. Gamma-glutamine transpeptidase is not found in the bloodstream, only in cells, the destruction of which releases their contents into the bloodstream.
