A test for the detection of total antibodies (IgG) to hepatitis C virus antigens, used to screen patients for hepatitis C virus infection. The test detects recombinant antigens (c200 and NS5) and a synthetic HCV-encoded core peptide (c22). The response to the core protein is an early indicator of HCV infection.
Possible situations for the detection of HCV antibodies
- In patients who have recovered from infection (antibodies may persist for up to 8-10 years).
- In children born to mothers with hepatitis C.
- After transfusion of blood containing these antibodies.
Indications for use
- Increased ALT and AST levels
- Preparation for surgery
- Parenteral manipulations
- Preparation for pregnancy
- Unprotected sexual intercourse, frequent change of sexual partners
- Drug use by injection or intranasal route
- Undergoing hemodialysis or currently undergoing dialysis
- Receiving donated blood and its components
- Clinical signs of HCV (cirrhosis of the liver, hepatocellular carcinoma, elevated liver function tests of unknown etiology, gastrointestinal diseases, or extrahepatic manifestations of HCV)
- People living with HIV
- Persons with tattoos, piercings
- Medical or dental procedures in conditions of uncertain infection control
Patient preparation rules:
- 4 hours before the test, fasting is necessary, fatty foods are excluded
- You can drink water
- For children under 1 year of age, it is advisable to observe the maximum possible interval between feedings or donate blood immediately before the next feeding.
