Lipid metabolism disorders
Cholesterol is an important component of cell membranes and a precursor for the synthesis of steroid hormones and bile acids. Elevated blood cholesterol levels (hypercholesterolemia) can cause serious pathological changes in the walls of blood vessels, leading to the risk of atherosclerosis. The main indicators of lipid metabolism are blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Cholesterol concentrations above 5 mmol/L are a risk factor for atherosclerosis.
