Bacteriological sperm culture is a comprehensive laboratory test aimed at identifying pathogens of nonspecific inflammatory processes in the genitourinary system. It allows to identify aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, as well as fungi of the genus Candida spp. In addition, the test determines the sensitivity to antibiotics and antimycotics (taking into account the MIC - minimum inhibitory concentration).
The material is sown on nutrient media to identify aerobic, anaerobic microorganisms and fungi of the genus Candida spp.
An automated MALDI-TOF method is used to accurately determine the species of the pathogen.
In 1 day - primary identification of bacteria.
In 2 days - preliminary antibiogram.
We determine the drugs and their MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) that will be most effective against the identified pathogen.
Turnaround time: 1 to 2-6 days (depending on the growth characteristics and identification of microorganisms).
Indications:
Contraindications: none.
Age restrictions: none.
The analysis should be performed before starting treatment with antimicrobial or antifungal drugs, or 7 days after their completion.
Avoid sexual intercourse and ejaculation 3 days before the test.
If you need information about the state of the entire urogenital tract, refrain from urinating 3 hours before the sample collection.
If you need a result for sperm only, it is recommended to empty your bladder beforehand.
The patient himself, following the instructions provided by the medical staff.
