Coronography is the X-ray examination of coronary lesions. The essence of the manipulation is as follows: the X-ray contrast agent is injected directly into the coronary artery opening and the series of images is made to reveal atheromatous plaques, to determine the degree of stenosis, etc.
Indications for coronography are ischemic heart disease, past history of myocardial infarction (postinfarction cardiosclerosis), heartaches (stenocardia), preparation for a cardiac surgery.
Total duration of the procedure is 60 minutes, the duration of the manipulation is 30 minutes.
Coronography is performed by endovascular surgeon, interventional cardiologist, surgical nurse, nurse anesthetist, anesthesiologist, if necessary.

There are no contraindications and age restrictions for coronography.
Preparation for the examination
Patients need preparation before the procedure. They should not eat and drink. If the admission to the hospital takes place in the morning, dinner should be your last meal. If the coronography is scheduled for the afternoon, you can have a light breakfast. Independently of the time of manipulation, you should take medications in the morning according to the prescribed scheme and wash them down with the small amount of water. Pills for pancreatic diabetes treatment, especially those containing metformin, are the exclusion. You should skip taking these medications and insulin injections. Protocol deviations are possible, but they should be discussed with your doctor.
Patients should provide all the medical records available (extracts, results of the tests, etc.) for coronography.
