Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme of the hydrolase class. The highest concentration of alkaline phosphatase is found in bone tissue (osteoblasts), hepatocytes, renal tubular cells, intestinal mucosa and placenta. Alkaline phosphatase is involved in processes related to bone growth, so its activity in the blood serum of children is higher than in adults.
