Urea is the end product of protein metabolism in the body. The main site of its formation is the liver, but some tissues, such as embryonic or tumor tissue, can also form urea from arginine. Most urea is excreted from the body through glomerular filtration in the kidneys, where it is partially reabsorbed by the tubular epithelium and partially secreted by tubular cells.
