MRI of the knee joint

The service is provided exclusively upon referral from a specialist.

During the examination, a magnetic resonance imaging scan of the knee joint is performed to detect pathologies, changes or injuries.

Indications for the examination:

• Degenerative changes in the knee joint.
• Old injuries to the knee joint.
• Pain in the shin or foot.
• Suspected tumors or lesions in the knee joint.
• Damage to cartilage, ligaments, meniscus or other structures of the knee joint.

Duration of the procedure: 20 minutes. The examination is performed by a radiologist and an X-ray technician.

Preparation for the examination:

No special preparation is required, but the following recommendations should be followed:

• Wear comfortable underwear made of natural materials.
• Avoid wearing jewelry or costume jewelry.
• Limit the use of cosmetics on the face, as some types of mascara can affect the quality of the image.

Contraindications:

• Presence of metal implants or devices that can interfere with the magnetic field (for example, pacemakers).
• Claustrophobia (relative contraindication).
• Severe general condition of the patient (relative contraindication).
• First trimester of pregnancy.

If the patient has an MR-compatible cardiac device, the presence of a cardiologist is required during the examination.

For a scheduled visit, be at the reception of the department 15 minutes before the examination.

The results (description, film on demand, recording on optical media) are issued after 6 hours. In complex cases, the period may be extended to 24 hours.
