MRI of the hand
The service is provided only upon referral from a specialist.
During the examination, a magnetic resonance imaging scan of the hand is performed to detect pathologies of soft tissues and joint structures.
Indications for the examination:
- Degenerative changes in the joints of the hand.
- Old injuries of the hand.
- Pain in the hand or hand.
- Suspected tumors or other pathologies of the soft tissues of the hand.
- Damage to the cartilage or other joint structures of the hand.
- There are no age restrictions.
Duration of the procedure: 20 minutes. The examination is performed by a radiologist and an X-ray laboratory technician.
Preparation for the examination
No special preparation is required, but it is worth following the following recommendations:
- Wear comfortable underwear made of natural materials.
- Do not wear jewelry or costume jewelry.
- Limit the use of cosmetics on the face (some types of mascara may cause image distortion).
Contraindications:
- Presence of metal implants or devices that may interfere with the magnetic field (e.g., pacemakers).
- Claustrophobia (relative contraindication).
- Severe general condition of the patient (relative contraindication).
- The presence of fragments located near large vessels or important organs requires consultation with a radiologist.
- Patients with severe forms of claustrophobia may require sedation.
For a scheduled visit, be at the reception of the department 15 minutes before the examination.
The examination results (description, film on demand, recording on optical media) are issued after 6 hours. In complex cases, the period may be extended to 24 hours.
