MRI of abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space
The service is provided only by prescription of a specialist.
It involves MR examination of internal organs, such as liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, adrenal glands.
Indications for the examination
- presence of masses or foci in the liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, adrenal glands
- accumulation of fluid in the abdominal or retroperitoneal cavities.
Procedure duration: 30 minutes, performed by a radiologist and a radiology technician.
Preparation for the examination
The examination requires certain preparation.
- 2 days before the examination, exclude from the diet foods that contribute to gas formation (legumes, salads from fresh vegetables, black bread).
- Do not drink carbonated beverages on the day of the examination.
- Do not take solid food 4 hours before the procedure, minimize the amount of liquid.
- Medications can be taken as usual.
- Bladder should be emptied 15 minutes before the examination.
- Wear comfortable underwear made of natural materials, avoid wearing jewelry.
- In case of a scheduled visit, arrive at the reception 15 minutes before the examination.
Contraindications to MRI:
- Presence of pacemakers, ferromagnetic clips, large metal fragments near important organs or large vessels.
- Patients with severe claustrophobia may require sedation.
- Presence of metal fragments (relative contraindication and requires consultation with a radiologist).
Issuance of examination results (description, recording of the full examination on an optical storage medium (film - on request) takes place in 6 hours, in complicated cases - up to 24 hours.
