MRI of the temporomandibular joints
- The service is provided only by appointment of a specialist.
- During the examination, magnetic resonance scanning of the temporomandibular joints is performed to detect pathological changes and assess their condition.
Indications for the examination:
- Suspected arthrosis of the temporomandibular joint.
- Pathological processes of the temporomandibular joints (inflammatory changes, tissue degeneration).
Duration of the procedure: 20 minutes. The examination is performed by a radiologist and an X-ray laboratory technician.
Preparation for the examination
No special preparation is required, but it is worth following the following recommendations:
- Wear comfortable underwear made of natural materials.
- Avoid wearing jewelry and costume jewelry.
- Limit the use of cosmetics on the face, as some types of mascara can cause image distortion.
Contraindications:
- Presence of pacemakers, ferromagnetic clips, large fragments located close to large vessels or important organs in the body. The presence of fragments is a relative contraindication, so the patient should discuss the possibility of undergoing the study with a radiologist.
- Patients with severe forms of claustrophobia may require sedation for the study.
Age restrictions: the service is available to patients of any age.
For a scheduled visit, it is recommended to be at the reception of the department 15 minutes before the study.
The result (description, film on demand, recording on optical media) is provided within 6 hours. In complex cases, the term may be extended to 24 hours.
