MRI of female pelvic organs with contrast enhancement
The service is provided only upon referral by a specialist.
It involves MR examination of a woman's pelvis (uterus, ovaries, bladder, rectum) with a contrast agent.
Indications for the examination
- presence of masses or foci in the bladder, uterus, ovaries, pelvis and extraperitoneal space
- accumulation of fluid in the pelvis or extraperitoneal space.
Procedure duration: 40 minutes, performed by a radiologist and a radiology technician.
Preparation for examination
This procedure requires certain preparation from the patient.
- It is necessary to have comfortable underwear made of natural materials.
- Avoid wearing jewelry and bijouterie during the examination.
- 2 days before the procedure, exclude from the diet foods that can contribute to gas formation (legumes, salads from fresh vegetables, black bread).
- Do not drink carbonated beverages on the day of the examination.
- 4 hours before the procedure, it is advisable not to take solid food and minimize the amount of liquid.
- Medications can be taken as usual.
- Bladder should be emptied 15 minutes before the examination.
- In case of a scheduled visit, arrive at the reception 20 minutes before the examination for insertion of indwelling catheter.
There are a number of contraindications for MR examination:
- Presence of pacemakers, ferromagnetic clips, large metal fragments located close to large vessels or important organs.
- Presence of metal fragments (relative contraindication and requires consultation with a radiologist).
- Patients with severe claustrophobia may require sedation.
The results of the examination (description, recording of the full examination on an optical medium (film - on request) are issued in 6 hours, in difficult cases - up to 24 hours.
