5 Veterans Receive Surgical Care at Dobrobut with Support from Raiffeisen

Surgeries are being performed as part of the Dobrobut Foundation’s program "Ready for Prosthetics" — a comprehensive initiative in which Dobrobut’s surgical team carries out reconstructive operations on the amputation stumps of servicemen injured by mine and explosive traumas. In summer 2024, Raiffeisen joined the project with a charitable donation, funding surgeries for 10 veterans.

The goal of the program is to accelerate the prosthetics process for defenders and provide psychological support to help them reintegrate into normal life.

To date, under the "Ready for Prosthetics" program, five patients have already received assistance:

• Serhii Borysenko, who sustained mine-explosive injuries during a combat mission near the Shyroke training ground, resulting in the amputation of both legs.
• Mykola Bielousov, who lost his right leg during a combat mission in early 2024.
• Ivan Ovchynnikov, who has been serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2020 and suffered a severe injury in April 2023 during a mission in eastern Ukraine, leading to the amputation of his right arm.
• Andrii Myniuk, who defended the country at just 23 years old and lost his right leg during a combat mission.
• Oleksandr Smirnov, who came under fire in early 2023, resulting in the amputation of his left leg.

The surgeries under this program are performed by Dr. Oksana Myronenko, an experienced orthopedic trauma surgeon at Dobrobut with over 18 years of experience. Since 2014, she has specialized in treating military injuries, helping veterans rebuild their lives after severe challenges.

“The sooner a patient receives a prosthetic after losing a limb, the better their quality of life will be. Working with amputations is an emotionally and professionally challenging process because the patient has endured loss, and we are here to help them navigate this journey,” shares Dr. Oksana Myronenko.
