Computerized tomography (CT) allows to obtain radiographic appearances of abdominal organs (liver, pancreatic gland, gallbladder, spleen, stomach and intestine), and also the organs of the retroperitoneal space: kidneys, adrenal capsules, vessels and lymph nodes.
CT displays dimensions, density, structure and possible neoformations of the organs being examined with rather high accuracy and reveals initial, even slight pathological changes which are impossible to diagnose with other instrumental techniques. CT diagnostics is counter-indicative for pregnant women and children with intolerance to the contrast agent that is often injected during the examination.
