How to become our patient

Tooth autotransplantation is the process of transplanting it from one place in the dentition to another, as a result of which the patient becomes a donor for himself. The procedure is an alternative to classical prosthetics and in some cases allows you to restore the beauty of your smile without installing artificial implants.

To carry out autologous transplantation, a well-coordinated work of a team of dentists is required. The Dobrobut clinic in Kyiv employs specialists with experience in performing complex transplants, so patients can count on an accurate and safe operation.

What teeth are used as “donors”

Most often, “eights” (wisdom teeth) are taken for transplantation. They do not participate in the chewing and speech-making function, so the absence will be invisible to humans. In addition, the hygiene of wisdom teeth is difficult, which is why they are affected by a carious process and often require removal in adulthood. Dentists can use 8th teeth to replace missing large molars (6th or 7th).

If the patient has a supernumerary tooth that has erupted completely or incompletely, it can be used to restore the dentition.

Stages of tooth autotransplantation

The operation algorithm is selected individually, considering the characteristics of the transplanted tooth and other factors. The standard procedure for autologous transplantation includes the following steps:

  1. Preliminary examination and panoramic x-rays of the jaws.
  2. Removal of a decayed or diseased tooth, preparation of a tooth socket for a graft.
  3. Careful extraction of the donor’s tooth with a small area of soft tissue.
  4. Moving and strengthening the transplanted tooth with a dental splint.

After the operation, the patient is scheduled for a second visit to assess the degree of tooth engraftment, remove stitches, and determine the indications for endodontic treatment.

Rehabilitation period

In the first days after dental autotransplantation, the patient may be disturbed by moderate pain, swelling of the periodontal tissues, the release of a clear liquid or ichor from the wound. Symptoms are a normal response to traumatic intervention and disappear soon after.

For the transplanted tooth to take root faster, dentists give the following recommendations:

  • for 2-3 days, limit the intake of solid, spicy, too cold, or hot food;
  • refrain from drinking alcohol;
  • do not injure the site of the operation with a toothbrush, floss, or tongue;
  • do not rinse your mouth with antiseptic or other solutions;
  • until the wound is completely healed, exclude visiting the sauna, bath, solarium;
  • quit smoking if possible or limit the number of cigarettes per day as much as possible.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages of the operation include:

  • lower cost of tooth autotransplantation, compared to the manufacture and installation of implants;
  • no age restrictions;
  • a high percentage of dental unit survival with proper preparation and procedure;
  • stimulation of natural processes of bone tissue regeneration of the tooth socket.

When choosing this method of treatment, it is necessary to remember its disadvantages. The main disadvantage is considered being many restrictions on the procedure, therefore autotransplantation does not apply to routine operations in dentistry. Another important point is the need to treat the root canals of the transplanted tooth after the procedure.

To decide which type of dental prosthetics is right for you, make an appointment with a dentist in Kyiv. The doctor will carry out a complete diagnosis and suggest the best reconstruction methods.

Registration at the MC Dobrobut dental clinic is carried out by phone or through an application in the feedback form.
