Doppler ultrasound (Doppler ultrasound)
One of the informative methods of instrumental diagnostics is foetal dopplerography during pregnancy (Doppler ultrasound). The major purpose of this test is to define the state of blood flow of mother-placenta-foetus chain.
Doppler ultrasound is performed after the completion of placenta formation
- Umbilical cord rings around the neck of the foetus were identified during a routine ultrasound;
- Placenta development pathologies were identified;
- In case of hypamnions or hydramnious;
- Ultrasound revealed paracephalia or a heart abnormality of a foetus;
- Abnormally small size of a foetus revealed during obstetric examination or ultrasound;
- Severe systemic diseases of a pregnant woman (pancreatic diabetes, endocrine diseases);
- Rhesus incompatibility of mother and foetus;
- Missed miscarriage in the past;
- Multifetal pregnancy, especially if one foetus is bigger that other;
- Bad cardiotocography results after 30 weeks of pregnancy;
- Abdominal injury of a pregnant woman.
Dopplerometry allows to identify impaired circulation and recognize a threat to life of a foetus. For ultrasound according to Doppler system no special preparation is required, the examination is combined with a planned diagnostic ultrasound.
