Elastography (elastometry) is a modern ultrasound technique of internal organs examination (more likely, the liver) used to assess the extent of the fibrosis which is the process of transformation of the normal liver tissue into the connective tissue. Progressing of fibrosis leads to cirrhosis, hepatic impairment and cancer.
Elastography is more informative in the study of organ structure and is of utmost importance for the patients with any type of hepatitis, infectious, toxic, alcoholic hepatitis, etc. included. This examination technique is safe, takes little time and causes no discomfort for a patient.
