Fibroesophagogastroduodenoscopy (FEGDS) is a highly informative endoscopic procedure that allows the doctor to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (part of the small intestine).

During the procedure, the patient lies on his left side, it lasts about 30 minutes. The research is carried out in the following sequence:

An anesthetic spray is applied to your throat and a mouthguard is inserted to protect your teeth.
The endoscope is inserted through the mouth into the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.
Air is pumped through the endoscope into the stomach and duodenum to make it easier to see the organs.
In the process of searching for a problem or performing the necessary manipulations, the mucous membrane is visualized.
If necessary, a small piece of tissue is taken for examination (biopsy).

If medication sleep was used, the patient is transferred to a ward under observation for several hours, after which, at the end of the effect of the medication, you immediately go home.
