Endometrial biopsy
Endometrial biopsy is a modern version of the aspiration biopsy of the uterine mucosa, which is used in gynecology for an accurate diagnosis. An aspiration biopsy using a Peipel probe consists of the following steps:
- The patient is placed in a gynecological chair, after which the doctor applies a local anesthetic to the cervical mucosa.
- The gynecologist carefully inserts a flexible disposable probe with a piston at the end into the uterine cavity and takes biomaterial from different parts of the endometrium.
- The doctor slowly removes the probe and places the tissue fragments in a special container for shipment to the laboratory.
In the laboratory, a histological examination of biopsy specimens is performed, which can take 7-10 days. As a result, the woman receives a specialist opinion describing the cellular composition of the endometrium, which helps the gynecologist to diagnose.
