PAP test (cervical smear screening test)

Call-center

The PAP test is a cytological examination of a smear from the cervix, which is one of the main ones at the annual gynecological examination because it helps to detect altered or cancerous cells in time. PAP test in gynecology plays a significant role because it helps to prevent cervical cancer, which ranks third among oncological diseases in women.

In our clinic MC "Dobrobut" in Ukraine, you can take a PAP smear to protect yourself from unnecessary worries, as well as to make sure that you are healthy. The price of a PAP smear in our laboratory is affordable. Remember that with a precancerous condition, women do not have pain and discomfort that could signal pathology. But in the early stages of development, the disease responds well to treatment.

What is a PAP test of the cervix

PAP smear or Papanicolaou test (named after the Greek scientist G. Papanikolaou) involves scraping from two points: the surface of the cervix and the cervical canal. At the time of taking the biomaterial, the girl may experience pulling pains in the lower abdomen - this is a normal reaction.

PAP analysis of the cervix combines the advantages of PAP staining and liquid cytology, which makes it possible to obtain the most reliable cytological picture.

Sign up for a PAP test at our Dobrobut MC clinic in Kyiv to undergo cytological screening and reduce the risk of cervical cancer. Our medical staff conducts the procedure carefully, without discomfort for patients.

Thanks to modern European equipment and experienced cytologists, we can guarantee the reliability of the results. For their correct interpretation, we recommend that you sign up for a consultation with a gynecologist to understand how to proceed in the future.

Do not undergo such an important examination as a PAP test in dubious clinics, since it is the literacy of the cytologist and certified equipment that is important here. False results can cost several months or years, during which time you can successfully deal with pathology and prevent complications.

How often should you take a PAP test?

The cost of a PAP test by liquid cytology is higher than a standard cytological scraping on glass, but it is more informative. The higher the quality of the cells studied by cytologists from an enriched solution, the much less influence is exerted by concomitant conditions - inflammation, mucus, blood impurities in the scraping.

Preventive screening should take place annually for girls who have been sexually active since the age of 21 or more than 3 years.

For women aged 30 to 65 years, annual preventive examinations by a gynecologist are required to identify risk groups and a PAP test for prevention, and for healthy women at least once every three years.

Also, it is necessary to additionally determine the HPV status (a study on the carriage of the human papillomavirus) and, if the result is positive, more careful monitoring since its presence increases the risk of developing cervical cancer.

Analysis for HPV with PAP test - 1 time in 5 years (co-testing).

Women over the age of 65 do not need to take a PAP test. But provided that the last 5 results did not reveal pathology.

The PAP test shows the most accurate picture of the state of the cervix and allows you to detect malignant cells in time when there is still every chance to save your health. The price of the test is democratic, which makes it easy for everyone to pass it if necessary.

How to interpret PAP test results

Screening test results are classified according to Bethesda terminology:

  • NILM - the cervix is healthy, this is a variant of the "norm". This means that there are no malignant and intracellular lesions, you need to take the test in the mode of a scheduled preventive examination on the recommendation of a doctor.
  • ASCUS - inflammation or mild dysplasia. The next step is to get tested for HPV. If the result is positive, then the girl has been prescribed a colposcopy. If negative, retake the PAP test after one year.
  • LSIL (CIN I) - mild dysplasia. The risk of cervical cancer is 1%. With such a result, the doctor of our clinic MC "Dobrobut" in Kyiv prescribes an HPV test for the patient. If it is negative, a repeat PAP test is performed within 1 year. If HPV is positive, a colposcopy and possibly a biopsy are ordered.
  • HSIL (CIN II / CIN III) - moderate dysplasia. In this case, the risk of precancerous changes in the cervix increases to 71%, and the risk of developing oncology is 7%. In this case, the doctor determines the tactics of treatment, taking into account the patient's history. However, you should not be afraid, even with this indicator, the situation can be turned in a positive direction, preventing cervical cancer.

Regardless of what you see in the results of the PAP test, it is necessary to seek the advice of a doctor.

Our gynecologists prescribe the necessary additional examinations and therapy, taking into account international recommendations and data from evidence-based medicine. Therefore, you can be sure that within the walls of the Dobrobut MC Reproductive Health Clinic you are in safe hands, thanks to which there is no reason to worry about any PAP test results.

How much does a PAP test cost and how to prepare for delivery

The price of the PAP test in our clinic is affordable, although we work with the latest generation equipment. You do not need to take anything with you to the test - we have all the necessary materials for the procedure. To find out the price of a PAP test, call us by phone - the manager will also answer all related questions.

Doctors recommend being examined in the first dry days after the end of menstruation. 48 hours before the examination, sexual intercourse, the use of vaginal suppositories, creams, gels, and douching should be excluded.

To take a PAP test in Kyiv with the subsequent competent interpretation of the results, sign up for our clinic by phone or on the website. We will take care of your health and will do everything so that the doctor's consultation leaves only positive memories.
