Ear polypotomy

Our doctors
How to become our patient
Call-center

Ear polyps are benign neoplasms on the mucous membrane of the eardrum or tympanic cavity, which can be caused most often by infectious agents (viruses, fungi) or due to inflammatory diseases of the ear. As a consequence, hearing impairment appears. To solve this problem, doctors perform ear polypotomy.

What is ear polypotomy?

Ear polypotomy is a surgery to remove polyps of the tympanic membrane and middle ear. The amount of surgery depends on the anatomy, localization of polyps, and their number. Our specialists at MC Dobrobut use the most advanced techniques to remove polyps in the ear.

In what cases is it necessary to consult an otorhinolaryngologist?

If the following symptoms are present, ear polyps may be suspected:
  • a feeling of a foreign object in the ear (constant itching or bloating);
  • hearing loss;
  • pathological discharge from the ear (purulent or bloody);
  • damage to the facial nerve from the side of education;
  • prolonged dizziness at rest.

If you are worried about at least one of the above symptoms, this is a good reason to seek help from an otorhinolaryngologist in the Dobrobut network of medical centers.

When is ear polypotomy contraindicated?

Contraindications to polypotomy are:
  • exacerbation of various infectious and allergic diseases;
  • diseases that are systemic;
  • coagulopathy of a different nature, which can lead to uncontrolled bleeding;
  • pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
  • decompensated diseases.

How is ear polypotomy performed?

Surgery is performed under local anesthesia. The duration of the operation is about 20 minutes.

For removal, the doctor uses a special microsurgical polyp loop or laser, which cuts off the polyp of the middle ear, after which he treats the site of the removed polyp with antiseptics.

No hospitalization is required after the operation, which allows the patient to leave the clinic on the day of the operation.

How is rehabilitation after ear polypotomy carried out?

The rehabilitation period is about a week. The patient returns to normal life after 2-3 days.

For the prevention of recurrence of polyps on the mucous membrane, our specialists prescribe a course of antibiotic therapy and antihistamine therapy.

The modern laser or shaver technique of polypotomy is painless and safe manipulations.
