Blowing the ear canal according to Politzer

What is Politzer's ear canal blowing?
Politzer purge is a treatment procedure in which the ear canals are blown through the nose when swallowed with a special device - a Politzer balloon, resembling the shape of a pear with a special tube (a hose of a certain size, which is selected for each patient individually). Nasal purging is aimed at equalizing the pressure in the ear and the environment and removing water and inflammatory exudate from the hearing aid.
The Eustachian tube is most often closed, so purging is performed to open the Eustachian tube.

When is the performance of blowing the ear canal shown?

Contraindications to the procedure are acute inflammatory processes of the senses of smell and hearing, which are fraught with the spread of the infectious process on the Eustachian tube.
How is the Eustachian tube blown?
The duration of the procedure is about 10-15 minutes. This is a completely painless and safe manipulation. The number of visits to the doctor will depend on the clinical manifestations. The patient will feel improvement after the first procedure.
The blowing of the ear canal is performed on an outpatient basis. The patient is in a special chair. He takes a sip of water and holds it in his mouth. A Politzer balloon (a pear with a special cannula) is inserted into one nostril, and the patient's other nostril is asked to close with a finger.
During the introduction of air into the nasal cavity, the patient is asked to take a sip, as a result of which the valve closing the Eustachian tube opens, and allows air to enter the tympanic cavity. The consequence of such manipulation is the alignment of air in the middle ear and the environment, improving ventilation.
