Removal of laryngeal neoplasms (papillomas in the throat, papillomas on the tonsils)

How to become our patient
Call-center

Removal of laryngeal neoplasms is a minimally invasive surgery, the purpose of which is to remove the growths that are located on the mucous membrane of the larynx, pharynx, or vocal cords.

When the papillomas on the tonsils are small, they do not lead to any discomfort, but when they increase in size, they lead to a violation of the voice and are accompanied by sensations of discomfort. When large, they become the cause of respiratory failure.

When can papilloma of the throat or larynx occur?

Human papilloma occurs as a consequence of infection with a virus. But for the virus to be active, provoking factors are needed:
  • a history of diseases of the pharynx or larynx;
  • decreased immunity;
  • allergic reactions;
  • hormonal disorders;
  • violation of personal oral hygiene;
  • alcohol and smoking abuse;
  • stress overvoltage.

What symptoms may indicate papilloma of the throat or larynx?

The following symptoms may indicate the presence of papilloma on the tonsils:
  • breathing disorder;
  • problems with swallowing;
  • blood in the sputum;
  • change of voice into a person (the voice becomes nasal, hoarse or speech is disturbed);
  • feeling of a foreign body in the throat;
  • there may be a sore throat, an unreasonable strong, prolonged cough;
  • unreasonable attacks of suffocation.

How is preoperative preparation performed?

Before surgery, the patient undergoes a comprehensive examination (biopsy of the affected area, general clinical examinations). This will make it possible to objectively assess the general condition of the patient, identify contraindications, and exclude the possibility of developing any complications.

How is the surgery performed?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of papilloma removal is on average from 30 minutes to 2 hours and depends on the complexity of the operation.

During the operation, only high-tech microsurgical equipment is used. A special ring is installed in the patient's larynx region, after which the neoplasm is removed under the control of a microscope. The base of the removed papilloma is treated with laser radiation, which allows the mucous membrane to be preserved and subsequently glued together. Thus, the healing and recovery period is fast. The site of operation is treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, which contribute to a less pronounced process of inflammation in the postoperative period. After removal of the papilloma, the physiological airflow through the ligaments is restored and the gradual restoration of a normal voice to the patient.

How is rehabilitation performed after removal of papillomas of the pharynx and larynx?

After the surgery, the patient stays in the hospital of our clinic for about 1-2 days. The period of full rehabilitation with voice restoration is up to 1 month.

For the first 2 weeks, you need to adhere to the recommendations for voice rest. The patient is prohibited from:

  • speak loudly;
  • sing when you have a cold.

For long conversations, you need to do breathing exercises and pause in the conversation.
