Ultrasound of pregnancy

All women who are expecting a baby undergo ultrasound examinations several times. This is a basic diagnostic procedure by which the doctor can monitor the development of the child, assess the health of the pregnant woman, and calculate the possible risks. Approximate dates for routine prenatal diagnostics:

at 5-8 weeks - confirmation of the presence and normal location of uterine pregnancy (ovum) and the vital activity of the embryo;

For a transabdominal ultrasound, a woman lies down on a couch, frees her stomach from clothes, and takes a comfortable position on her back. The doctor applies the gel to the skin, then applies the sensor and gently passes it over the entire abdomen. In transvaginal diagnostics, a special vaginal probe, covered with a condom, is inserted into the vagina, which the doctor tilts slightly to the sides for detailed visualization of the uterine cavity.
