This minimally-invasive video-assisted thoracoscopy procedure is performed on a patient with congenital pectum excavatum in the operating room under general anesthesia. The operating team includes a surgeon, 3 assistants and a surgical nurse.
A surgeon with assistants makes transfixation incision in the lower third of the sternum and brings it into a moderate hypercorrection position; two approaches 3 cm each are made on each side of the medium axillary line; then tunneling in sub- muscular layer is made to the highest deformation points on both sides; retrosternal tunnel is formed with a help of thoracoscope; a correcting titanic bar is inserted, positioned and fixed (as indicated).
Indication: congenital pectum excavatum of the sternum II-III in a child.
Service duration: from 80 to 150 minutes (excluding anesthesia).
Age restrictions: child from 6 years.
Contraindications: acute infectious diseases, exacerbation of chronic diseases; heart defects requiring surgical treatment.
Clinical examinations to be provided no later than two weeks before surgery.
