When should you register for pregnancy care?

During your first visit, the doctor will prescribe the necessary examinations and prepare all required documents. The optimal time to register is between 8 and 10 weeks of pregnancy, and preferably no later than 12 weeks.

This is because the most important first-trimester screening (which assesses the risk of abnormalities) must be performed before 14 weeks. Early registration allows you to undergo all key examinations on time.

Tell your obstetrician-gynecologist about your health specifics, share your concerns and wishes — your doctor will create a personalized plan and guide you through this important journey to motherhood.

Recommended schedule of routine visits

The schedule depends on your health status, pregnancy course, and the number of fetuses.

On average, you will see your doctor every 2–4 weeks:

  1. First visit — ideally before 12 weeks of pregnancy (health assessment, planning, referral for screening, document preparation).
  2. 16–19 weeks.
  3. 20–27 weeks.
  4. 28 weeks.
  5. 29–34 weeks (starting from 30 weeks, maternity leave documents can be issued; “Dobrobut” doctors provide all necessary paperwork, including electronic sick leave).
  6. 35–37 weeks.
  7. 38–40 weeks.
  8. 41 weeks (if labor has not started).

Ultrasound examinations (US) is an essential element of pregnancy care.

  • First ultrasound is usually done at 8–10 weeks, unless there are concerning symptoms (pain, bleeding) or clinical indications for an earlier scan.
  • The next step is the first-trimester screening ultrasound at 11 weeks +1 day to 13 weeks +6 days, followed by a combined prenatal screening using the ASTRAIA system.
  • At 18–21 weeks, an important anatomical second-trimester scan is performed — the most detailed fetal organ check.
  • Additional ultrasounds are performed at 28–30 weeks and 36 weeks to assess fetal growth, position, and condition.
  • Extra scans are prescribed individually (high-risk pregnancies, late-manifesting anomalies, multiple pregnancies, etc.).

Registering for pregnancy care at “Dobrobut”

You can register anytime, choosing a pregnancy care program that suits you.

Every pregnant woman receives an individualized approach based on international recommendations and Ministry of Health standards.

Your obstetrician-gynecologist at “Dobrobut” will guide you throughout your pregnancy, providing all necessary consultations and medical care.

Pregnant women are also supported by dedicated pregnancy managers who help resolve any questions.

How to choose the right program?

To select the appropriate program, contact our manager or consult a “Dobrobut” obstetrician-gynecologist.

After filling out a short questionnaire, the doctor will recommend the program that fits your needs.

We take into account:

  • Whether the pregnancy is single or multiple.
  • Chorionicity (for twins — number of placentas), which is crucial for determining the management strategy.
  • Presence of chronic somatic diseases.
  • Obstetric and gynecological history (previous pregnancies and births).
  • The timing of registration for pregnancy care.

Once early ultrasound confirms twins or triplets, determining chorionicity is essential — whether babies share one placenta or each has their own. This significantly affects the management plan.

Multiple pregnancy involves more frequent visits, more ultrasounds, and more detailed monitoring.

Regardless of the chosen program, you will receive full information about your pregnancy care plan, birth planning (timing, type of delivery, pain relief), and newborn care.

The scope of examinations may vary depending on the program and the registration time.

Types of Pregnancy Care Programs

  • “Basic” Pregnancy Program — for women expecting a single baby with no serious health issues (chronic diseases) or complications in previous pregnancies/childbirths; suitable for low-risk pregnancies.
  • “Optimal” Pregnancy Program — for women with a physiological single pregnancy, or those with moderate risk factors, or who want a more comprehensive examination during pregnancy.
  • “Late Registration” Pregnancy Program — recommended for women with physiological single pregnancies who start care at “Dobrobut” in the second trimester (16–20 weeks).
  • “Premium” Pregnancy Program — for women with single pregnancies who want the maximum possible range of examinations according to international and Ukrainian standards, or have risk factors for complications (complicated medical/obstetric history, adverse previous pregnancies or births, etc.).
  • “Multiple Pregnancy DC” Program — for women with twins having separate placentas. Includes all necessary exams and ultrasounds for mother and babies during pregnancy and after delivery.
  • “Multiple Pregnancy MC” Program — for women with monochorionic twins (babies share one placenta). Includes all necessary exams and ultrasounds for mother and babies during pregnancy and after delivery.
  • “Post-IVF” Program (single/multiple pregnancy) — for women pregnant after assisted reproductive technologies, taking into account previously completed examinations and possible complications.

If you are unsure which program to choose, our pregnancy care managers will gladly help you select the best option.

How do I know when and for which procedure to see the doctor?

After registration, you will receive a pregnancy record card, where the doctor records all data on your and your baby’s health.

The doctor will also mark scheduled visits, timing of examinations, lab tests, and instrumental studies.

You can always clarify recommendations and deadlines with your pregnancy care manager.
