Ultrasound of pregnancy

Diagnostic ultrasound during pregnancy (ultrasound of pregnancy) is a routine and completely safe procedure that gives a lot of information on the state of a pregnant woman and a foetus.

With the help of modern ultrasound equipment an obstetrician-gynaecologist can identify the following:

• Gestational age,
• Biometric data of a foetus (dimensions of hands and feet, head and abdominal circumference);
• Structural state of internal organs,
• Presence or absence of foetal development pathologies,
• Presence or absence of foetal developmental delays,

If there are no additional indications, three planned ultrasound procedures are performed during pregnancy within the following intervals:

• 12–14 weeks;
• 20–24 weeks;
• 32–34 weeks.

In some cases the first ultrasound at pregnancy is assigned at the 8th week, during pregnancy registration.

Immediately before labour the diagnostic ultrasound is performed to identify the position of a foetus and also to receive the information on cord entanglement and compliance of weight and size of a foetus to the maternal passages of a woman.

Pregnant women do not need any additional preparation for diagnostic ultrasound.
