How ultrasound is performed

Ultrasound of small pelvis of women is an absolutely painless procedure and can be performed in several ways:

• Transabdominally (the device sensor is applied to the anterior abdominal wall),
• Transvaginally (the sensor is introduced vaginally),
• Transrectally (the sensor is introduced through the anus and the examination is performed through the posterior abdominal wall).

The procedure takes not more than 20 minutes. Preparation, such as full urinary bladder, is required for transabdominal ultrasound.
