The first public presentation of the Medical School — a joint project of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) and the Dobrobut medical network — took place at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The school will train a new generation of doctors with early clinical practice, an international approach, and a focus on responsibility and leadership.
The event brought together representatives of the university, the medical community, international partners, and organizations already joining the development of the school as ambassadors. During the presentation, representatives of Dobrobut and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, as well as the team directly working on the program, delivered speeches.
“For 25 years, Dobrobut has come a long way: we have learned to build modern medical centers, work with the best equipment, and create systems and processes. At the same time, we realized that change must begin at the very start — with the training of doctors. Choosing a partner to create the Medical School with was crucial for us. Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was an obvious choice due to its values, approach, and people,” said Serhii Orel, CEO of the Dobrobut medical network.
“We conceptually viewed the medical school as an important part of the university and have been working toward this for quite a long time. In the Western tradition, all strong classical universities have their own medical schools. Together with our partners from Dobrobut, we share a vision of building a new model of medical education based on the best global practices,” emphasized Serhii Kvit, President of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
Beyond its practical dimension, the Medical School carries a profound educational mission.
“It is important for us that the mission of this project is clear — we are shaping people who are capable of changing the country. Today at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, our goal is not only to provide knowledge and skills but also to nurture value-driven individuals. The Medical School is an example of synergy between a national university and private business. We thank the Dobrobut medical network for believing in this idea. We are working on launching the first cohort and believe it will be a step toward a new medical education in Ukraine,” said Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine (2014–2019) and Head of the Supervisory Board of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
The Medical School is being created as a response to a systemic challenge — the need for a new type of doctor.
“We are convinced that Ukraine needs a different type of physician — not just a protocol executor, but a medical expert, a responsible citizen, a person with ethical principles. A doctor is more than a clinician. That is why we rely on international competency frameworks and adapt them to the Ukrainian context, shaping doctors who can think, collaborate, and take responsibility,” said Maria Kukushkina, Organizing Dean of the Medical School and Head of the Oncology Center at Dobrobut.
After the team’s speeches, project ambassadors took the floor. Among them were the Healthy Solutions foundation, represented by co-founder and Director of Strategic Development Tetiana Havrysh and co-founder and Executive Director Viktoriia Tymoshevska, as well as GMKA Co-Executive Director Inesa Huivaniuk.
The event concluded with a panel discussion titled “Medical Education as an Investment in the Future,” where participants discussed the link between education and practice, the role of culture in training doctors, and the potential for scaling new educational models.
The Medical School is being created as an environment where a culture of collaboration, responsibility, and respect for patients is formed. The program is based on a combination of fundamental, clinical, and гуманитарного training, as well as a focus on international approaches and partnerships.
The program includes:
More than 100 experts from Ukraine and abroad have already contributed to the development of the school.
The first student intake is planned for 2026.
The Medical School is open to partnerships and invites educators, experts, medical institutions, and donors to collaborate.
The school is created with the support of the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Development of Medical Education” in cooperation with a partnership ecosystem in Ukraine. Event partners include Healthy Solutions and GMKA.
