Hymorotomy surgery is an operation in the maxillary sinus to normalize the outflow of exudate from the paranasal sinus, remove mucous tissue, pus, foreign bodies, or other pathological formations located in the sinus.

When is hymorotomy indicated?

There are the following indications for hymorotomy:
  • structural pronounced changes in the walls of the sinus;
  • sinus foreign bodies;
  • fungal infection of the sinus;
  • frequent recurrent chronic sinusitis (3-4 times a year);
  • maxillary sinus cysts;
  • polyposis of the maxillary sinus with the presence of pus;
  • degeneration of the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus;
  • sinus neoplasms.

What are the contraindications for performing hymorotomy?

Contraindications for hymorotomy are:
  • exacerbation of various infectious and allergic diseases;
  • systemic diseases;
  • pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
  • coagulopathy of a different nature, which can lead to uncontrolled bleeding;
  • decompensated somatic diseases.

What is the purpose of hymorotomy?

Performing hymorotomy, the doctors of the clinic pursue the following goals:
  • improvement of the drainage function of the sinus;
  • reduction of symptomatic manifestations of sinusitis;
  • improving the sense of smell;
  • creating conditions for improving sinus irrigation during lavage of the nasal passages;
  • improving the patency of the nasal passages for air.

What surgical techniques for hymorotomy are used in Kyiv?

Our specialists in Ukraine use the following surgical techniques:
  • MICROHYMOROTOMY
  • ENDOSCOPIC HYMOROTOMY WITH ACCESS THROUGH THE NOSE CAVITY

How is microhymorotomy performed?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery is from 30 to 50 minutes.

The ENT makes the patient an incision of the mucous membrane under the upper lip by 5-7 mm to the bone and gently removes the mucous membrane. Then, using a special instrument (trocar), he makes a hole in the sinus sufficient to insert the endoscope and the necessary instruments. This is enough to fully examine the sinus cavity. Then he removes the entire contents of the sinus and rinses the cavity. The operation ends with layer-by-layer suturing of the mucosal incision.

How is endoscopic hymorotomy with access through the nasal cavity (endonasal) performed?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery is from 30 to 40 minutes.

A flexible endoscopic probe is inserted into the nasal cavity through the middle nasal passage through the anastomosis to the maxillary sinus. The image from the endoscope camera is displayed on the monitor. With the help of an endoscope, the focus of pathology (polyp, foreign body, pus) is located. With the help of suction, exudate or pus is taken, using micro-instruments, a polyp, foreign body, or neoplasm is removed (a biopsy is taken and sent to histology). The instrument is removed from the nasal cavity.

Endoscopic hymorotomy is performed by the most experienced and qualified otorhinolaryngologists of our clinic, who regularly attend international conferences and undergo training in the best clinics in Europe and America, improving their skills.

How is the recovery period after endoscopic hymorotomy?

After the operation, full breathing through the nose is restored almost immediately. From the first day, the patient almost does not experience pain.

After the operation, it is necessary to remain under the supervision of the medical staff for a day in the hospital of the clinic. Then the patient is discharged with further recommendations.

Full recovery occurs in 2 weeks. It is not recommended to blow your nose for the first 3 days and visit the bathhouse or sauna for 2 weeks.
