Intensive Care for Children

The main purpose of inpatient treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) is in organization of continuous medical and diagnosis activities for restoring, stabilizing and maintaining the basic vital functions of the body in potentially life-threatening medical conditions.

• diseases of the respiratory system in children complicated by shortness of breath with involvement of breathing muscles, 2nd degree respiratory failure (bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, bronchial obstruction syndrome), 2nd - 3rd degree acute stenotic laryngotracheitis;
• diseases of the respiratory system in children in the first 6 months of life (bronchitis, bronchial obstruction syndrome, acute laryngotracheitis, community-acquired pneumonia) in the first 24-48 hours of the disease;
• acute diseases in children with severe premorbid background (congenital heart disease, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and others) included in the list of indications for hospitalization in the somatic department;
• toxicosis with exicosis of 2nd -3rd degrees resulted from viral infections with gastrointestinal syndrome, acetonemic syndrome;
• children of the first 3 months of life with vomiting, diarrhea and toxic-exicosis of 1st - 2nd degrees in the first 24-48 hours of the disease;
• hyperpyrexia during fever resistant to antipyretics, hyperthermia of various origins;
• convulsions and post-seizure conditions;
• acute allergic diseases (generalized urticaria, Quincke's edema);
• syndrome of autonomic dysfunction (hypertension, vagoinsular crisis);
• acute reaction to stress;
• acute poisoning (after consulting a toxicologist);
• conditions that require rehabilitation after surgery (as recommended by a pediatric surgeon of the Dobrobut Medical Network);
• all patients who require follow-up under intensive care.
