The surgeon sees the patient's internal organs on the monitor, can examine their condition to the smallest detail and perform all surgical interventions very accurately.
Advantages of laparoscopy over traditional ‘open’ surgery
- No pain. Pain is absent during the operation (due to appropriate anesthesia and the experience of anesthesiologists) and in the postoperative period. After all, the patient most often suffers from surgical wound. With laparoscopic method, the pain syndrome is minimized: no large incisions - no major injury;
- No complications. Significant reduction in the risk of complications is very important for the patients. Adhesions after traditional operations occur due to mechanical tissue damage. Laparoscopic procedure minimizes injury reducing the risk of adhesions. In addition, a large incision is a large portal for infection. The smaller is the area of the wound, the less likely it becomes infected as this is a direct relationship. The risk of infection in the wound is very high for elderly people with poor blood supply, atherosclerosis and low immunity. The laparoscopic procedure is the best alternative for debilitated and elderly patients;
- No prolonged bed rest. One of the advantages of the laparoscopic method is a short bed rest. This is important because when a patient is forced to stay in bed for many days, the risk of developing pneumonia increases;
- No long-term hospitalization. Minimally invasive techniques with all advantages of laparoscopy significantly reduce the hospitalization period when compared to classic ‘open’ operations. The body recovers faster and the patient returns to a normal lifestyle.
