Laparoscopic kidney resection

Today, laparoscopic kidney resection has become a welcome alternative to radical nephrectomy for the treatment of small tumors. How is laparoscopic kidney resection performed?

During laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon makes a series of small incisions in the lower abdomen to access the kidney and inserts a laparoscope (a tiny tube with an optical system and light) for visual control. After examining the kidney, the doctor can proceed to biopsy the suspicious areas and remove the part of the kidney damaged by the pathological process. The excised tumor is removed from the abdominal cavity in a special bag. Trocars are removed, punctures are sutured with 1-2 sutures.
