Otoplasty (ear plastic)

For medical reasons, the correction of the auricles can be carried out starting from 6 months. The most favorable period in childhood is considered to be the interval of 6-14 years.

If the surgical intervention does not imply the correction of a serious congenital or acquired defect that complicates life, it is worth waiting until the young person passes the stage of active growth, otherwise, the defect may recur.

The International Society for Aesthetic Surgery calls otoplasty one of the most demanded plastic surgeries. It is performed on a fully formed ear.

The operation, with rare exceptions, is not done for children under 6 years old, since the ears continue to grow actively and the defect may recur. If the auricle was injured, you will have to wait 1-1.5 years until the cartilage is completely healed.

The rest of the contraindications are general, relating to all cases of surgical intervention:

• infectious and viral diseases;
• oncology;
• pregnancy and breastfeeding period;
• blood clotting pathology.

The operation can be performed both with a surgical scalpel and with a laser. In the second option, the price for ear plastic will be higher, but it is more preferable for children since it is less traumatic. Be prepared to be tested and examined. For adults, ear correction is usually performed under local anesthesia, for children and adolescents under general anesthesia, since the patient may experience discomfort during the work of the surgeon.

Preliminary computer modeling is carried out so that the patient can see and agree with the surgeon on the planned result. The ears are measured, photographed in different projections. Operation stages:

3. After the shape correction, sutures are applied.

On average, the operation takes 60 minutes. The ears are secured with a tight bandage. If the patient is feeling well, he is discharged home, but an accompanying person should be present.

This type of surgery does not involve a hospital stay. The patient is discharged on the day of treatment. In 95% of cases, ear correction in Kyiv takes place without complications. However, the violation by the patient of the rules of rehabilitation can provoke unpleasant consequences - the development of hematoma, incision, and necrosis of the stitches. Failure to wear the dressing can lead to repeated trauma and deformation of the ear cartilage.

• Full recovery takes 2-6 months.
• 1 month - give up extreme sports, avoid hypothermia.
• The stitches are removed after 7-10 days. You cannot wash your hair for 14 days.
• For 7 days, the patient wears a fixing bandage constantly, 1 month needs to sleep in it.
• During the first week, every 2-3 days, it is necessary to change the tampon with an antiseptic inside the ear.

In case of pain, pain relievers are taken. There is always swelling after the operation - this is normal. If symptoms of complications appear, consult your doctor as soon as possible.

Otoplasty assumes a long period of fixation on the obtained result. The patient will need up to six months before the cartilage of the ear takes its last position. Wearing a bandage and following all the recommendations of a specialist will allow you to consolidate the effect obtained and avoid recurrence of the deformity of the auricle.
