HIV infection is a disease that affects the cells of the immune system. The disease progresses slowly and does not always manifest itself clinically. When planning a pregnancy, it is important to take an ELISA test for HIV approximately 3-6 months before the intended conception.

Early detection of the disease will allow taking preventive measures that will minimize the risk of HIV infection in the child if the disease is detected in the mother.

Sign up for a consultation at the Dobrobut MC clinic in Kyiv to refute or confirm the presence of the human immunodeficiency virus.

How to detect infection using an ELISA test for HIV

The indication for the analysis is the planning of pregnancy, pregnancy and preparation for a planned surgical intervention. Diagnosis should be carried out as a preventive study during unprotected sexual contact with a person who has been diagnosed with HIV.

European-class equipment in our laboratory will allow you to get a 100% reliable result. But here it is important to consider that after entering the human body, the virus multiplies rather slowly, so antibodies and antigens are produced no earlier than 3-6 weeks after infection.

The immunoenzymatic analysis of HIV just serves not to detect the virus itself, but antibodies to it, which are produced by our body to fight the pathogen.

How is an ELISA HIV test performed?

For the study, venous blood is needed. No special preparation is required.

The sampling of material for research is carried out in the morning on an empty stomach. A few days before testing, it is recommended to refrain from drinking alcohol and fatty foods.

Screening is done as follows - blood is applied to the purified particles of the virus (antigens). If the patient has HIV, then the antigens in his blood react with the dye, which leads to a change in its color. This is a quality reaction. The quantitative indicator is analyzed using special laboratory equipment.

The reliability of HIV ELISA analysis increases in proportion to the duration of infection. If a virus is detected in the blood, to maximize the accuracy of the examination, another test is carried out.

What do you get from an HIV ELISA test?

A positive test result suggests that the person being tested is HIV-infected. It is important to consult a doctor here. The disease cannot be cured, but it can be controlled. Using highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) will allow you to lead a normal life, including being a parent of a healthy child.

A negative result indicates that there are no antibodies to HIV infection in the blood. But this, unfortunately, does not always mean that a person is healthy. There is a period of the so-called "seronegative window" when antibodies have not yet been developed in sufficient quantities for detection. Therefore, if there is a suspicion that you may be infected, then it is worth repeating the HIV ELISA test in 2-3 weeks, especially since the price for it is quite affordable.

Doubtful (uncertain) result. In this case, it is necessary to repeat the study after 2-3 weeks, then after 3 and 6 months. If the test result is negative, there is no need to repeat the study. In the case of repeated receipt of a questionable answer, the person will be considered infected. He is recommended therapy, which is used for patients with a positive HIV ELISA result.

How to sign up for an enzyme immunoassay for HIV

Women who are planning a pregnancy and those who are already carrying a child are recommended to be tested for HIV infection. When planning a pregnancy, it is important to have both partners tested, even if you feel completely healthy.

We want to emphasize once again that the virus can stay in the body for several years without any clinical manifestations.

To conduct an ELISA test for HIV, leave a request on the website of our clinic and sign up for a consultation. The manager will contact you on the same day and make an appointment for a convenient date and time for you. The research is conducted confidentially or anonymously. That is, the results of the tests that became known to the specialists of the Dobrobut MC clinic in Kyiv are not subject to disclosure to third parties.
