Quite often, men after 40 years of age have an increased risk of developing prostate adenoma. This process is associated with a decrease in the level of male hormones. An increase in cellular mutations with age increases the risk of developing prostate cancer. Fortunately, no connection was found between the presence of prostatic hyperplasia and its development into cancer.
Surgical intervention, namely transurethral resection of prostate adenoma (TRP), is considered one of the most effective methods of treating this disease in Ukraine. Also, when a malignant tumor of the prostate gland is detected at the initial stage, which obstructs the urethra, this type of surgical intervention is successfully used. TRP is not a radical treatment. Transurethral resection is intended to improve the patient's quality of life, namely to relieve painful symptoms caused by compression of the urethral canal by the neoplasm.
Advantages of TRP over radical prostatectomy:
A contraindication to treatment with this method is the presence of a large tumor, impaired blood clotting, exacerbation of inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system, the advanced age of patients.
There are 2 techniques for transurethral resection:
TRP prostate surgery is performed under general intravenous or epidural anesthesia and begins with carefully inserting a lubricated endoscope into the urethra and examining it. Further, the surgeon-urologist, under visual control, introduces a resectoscope. It moves along the urethra to the prostate gland, after which the neoplasm is excised with electric loops and the vessels are coagulated. The cut tissue enters the bladder and is flushed out with a fluid that is fed into the resectoscope. Excision of the tumor is carried out under the additional control of a finger of a surgeon-oncourologist inserted into the patient's rectum. After surgery, the patient is usually placed with a Foley catheter, which remains in place for 1-3 days to urinate.
The duration of the operation of resection of the prostate gland takes about 1 hour on average.
The cost of transurethral resection of the prostate in each case is individual and depends on the level of complexity. The price of surgery in the Dobrobut clinic in Kyiv also includes preoperative preparation, the procedure, and consumables, the patient's stay in the clinic.
