Surgery for varicose veins - types, features

How to become our patient
Call-center

Surgery for varicose veins is a necessity in almost all cases of the disease. The fact is that the peculiarity of varicose veins is the impossibility of complete recovery after conservative treatment. Yes, various drugs are quite able to restrain the progression of the pathological process, but only surgery for varicose veins allows the patient to continue a normal lifestyle and not interrupt work.

Surgery to remove varicose veins on the legs – features

Modern medicine uses various technologies for operations on varicose veins, but the essence of the procedure remains the same - ligation and removal of pathologically altered veins. Most often, surgery to remove varicose veins on the legs requires the removal of superficial veins - these vessels are smaller, of which only 10-15% of blood circulation, so their removal does not significantly affect the patient's condition. Deep veins - bigger and more powerful vessels - have an additional load.

Indications for surgery:

  • acute or chronic impaired blood flow (in some cases, varicose veins are completely absent);
  • varicose veins in an advanced state, when trophic ulcers have already formed or are just beginning to appear;
  • pathological varicose veins;
  • varicose disease, which occurs on the background of oedema of the lower extremities and increased fatigue of the patient;
  • diagnosed with thrombosis.

Surgery for varicose veins – types

The main types of surgery for varicose veins include several methods.
Phlebectomy

Is a classic type of surgery, and its essence is to remove diseased veins with special probes (phleboextractors) and instruments through incisions (3-4 mm). First, the pathologically altered vein is ligated, cut and only then removed. Reviews of phlebectomy - surgery for varicose veins - allow you to classify this surgery as low-trauma and completely safe. As a rule, the surgeon's work lasts only 1-2 hours, and the patient is not in the hospital for a long time - a day later he is discharged.

Miniphlebectomy

Is a surgical procedure similar to classical phlebectomy. The only difference is that to access the veins, the doctor does not make autopsies, but punctures and uses special tools (microhooks). Thus, the cosmetic defect remains minimal, and the postoperative period is reduced to a minimum.

Short stripping

An operation in which the diseased vein is not completely removed, only its specific affected area is excised. The specialist determines the exact location of damaged areas of the vein, makes two punctures and with the help of special tools removes the selected part of the vessel. There is no need to suture punctures, which also minimizes the cosmetic defect.

Endoscopic removal of veins

Is an operation for varicose veins, which is performed under the control of a special tool - an endoscope, which reduces to zero the possibility of complications in the postoperative period.

Such surgical methods treat not only varicose veins of the lower extremities but also testicular varicose veins - surgery in this regard also takes little time and is low in trauma. Within a few hours after the intervention, the patient can go home for outpatient treatment.

Modern methods of varicose vein removal

Modern vascular surgery can offer the following methods of removing subcutaneous veins and vascular asterisks:

  • sclerotherapy using CO2;
  • transillumination sclerotherapy;
  • radiofrequency ablation;
  • endovasal laser obliteration;
  • treatment using BIOCLAW.

Modern operations for varicose veins, the reviews of which are almost 100% positive, can solve the problem even in the presence of a severe variant of varicose veins. Such methods allow the doctor to work with full confidence that the patient will not be disturbed by complications, and the patient knows that in a day after staying in the hospital he will be able to return home.

Varicose veins after surgery

In the postoperative period, do not forget about varicose veins. The patient needs:

  • get advice from a doctor about wearing compression underwear - it often prevents the development of complications or recurrences of the disease;
  • take special venotonic drugs that will help consolidate the effect of surgical treatment and quickly restore normal blood circulation in the veins;
  • adhere to a certain daily routine - too intense physical activity and some work activities are prohibited.

Varicose veins after surgery - a visit to the doctor to monitor the recovery process, periodic spa treatment, as well as compliance with the appointments and recommendations of a specialist. All information about what types of operations are used in modern medicine and the essence of their implementation can be found on our website Dobrobut.com.

If the operation was performed in time, varicose veins do not pose a danger to the health and life of the patient. Otherwise, deep vein thrombosis can occur - a pathological condition in which a blood clot can break off at any time and begin to move to the lungs. After surgery, there will be no varicose veins - also, the chances of recurrence of the disease, the re-development of varicose veins, are reduced to zero.
