Kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty are relatively new treatments for pain caused by vertebral compression fractures.
In vertebroplasty, the patient is in a tilted position (face down) and the procedure is performed either under general anesthesia or sedation (when the patient is awake). Then one or two needles are inserted under X-ray control into the fractured vertebra through the skin on the back. The doctor fills the broken vertebra with special cement. It hardens in minutes, providing immediate bone stability and pain relief.
During back surgery, a small incision is made through which the doctor inserts a narrow tube. Having directed it to the correct position, the doctor inserts a special balloon through the tube and gently inflates it. The balloon is then removed and the doctor fills the cavity with a cement-like material that hardens quickly to stabilize the bone.
The price of an operation in MS Dobrobut depends on the type of material used and the technique of the operation. The cost of the kit is not included in the cost of performing kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty.
