In early August, the "Dobrobut" medical network launched the "MedEducation for Heroes" project, offering free training for veteran medics. After reviewing applications, the expert commission selected 20 participants who will undergo professional training at Dobrobut Academy.

The initiative is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and Veteran Hub, with UP.Zhyttya as the media partner.

A total of 69 veterans submitted applications for the project. These included doctors, paramedics, and nurses who had the opportunity to choose a medical specialization based on their needs and experience. The most popular areas of study among the participants were healthcare organization and management, ultrasound diagnostics, radiology, and physical and rehabilitation medicine.

Most participants served as combat medics at stabilization points, in mobile hospitals, and in medical evacuation brigades. Some of them continue their military service to this day.

In their applications, veterans spoke about the barriers they face in returning to their profession, including a lack of knowledge, professional deformation related to the war, and long breaks in civilian practice. The longest break among participants was 10 years.

"We truly want every veteran to not only have new opportunities for professional development but also to feel that their experience and knowledge are needed in civilian life. This initiative is our way of showing gratitude and providing real support. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who applied; it is a great honor for us to learn the stories of our medical colleagues who found the courage to trade their medical scrubs for military uniforms", said Oleksandra Mashkevych, Chief Medical Officer of the Dobrobut medical network.

"The choice was incredibly difficult, as every candidate deserves the opportunity to learn. Behind each application, we saw a person with a unique experience and service history. We are confident that these twenty veteran medics will gain knowledge that will help them make an important contribution to civilian medicine. It is a great honor for us to support them on this path", shared Nana Voitenko, Rector of Dobrobut Academy.
