Considerable part of urologic diseases are congenital. Developmental pathologies of the urogenital system can develop in the mother’s womb. Prenatal diagnostics ultrasonographer will notice such pathologies, first of all. Besides, pathologies of male and female genitalia can manifest at the age of 4 to 5 years, and even later, at the age of 12–15 years.
During the first scheduled check-up a pediatric urologist will consult the parents on how to carry out hygiene procedures for the genitalia correctly, and will also tell about the particularities of urogenital system development and the problems that require parents’ attention. Correct intimate hygiene of a child helps to prevent the development of urological diseases, and incorrect care may result in various diseases, such as balanoposthitis of boys, cystitis and other diseases of girls.
A child whose parents and/or close relatives have suffered from diseases of urinary bladder and kidneys need a consultation by a pediatric urologist, because some serious pathologies may be hereditary.
