Papillomas in the throat - symptoms and treatment of the condition

How to become our patient

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is an infectious agent for which a prize was awarded for its identification and creation of a vaccine. This virus is the main cause of the formation of papillomas in the throat.

Papilloma in the throat - what is it?

In otolaryngology, papilloma in the throat is considered one of the most problematic diseases. Morphologically, it is a benign formation that is the result of proliferation in the epithelium and mucous membrane of the larynx. In medical practice, several classifications of papillomas in the throat are accepted:

  • by time of existence (juvenile, adult);
  • degree of growth - single and widespread (papillomatosis);
  • oncogenic factors (malignant or benign).

What does a papilloma in the throat look like?

Papillomas can be found in different parts of the respiratory system. The larynx, palatine brackets, tongue, and tonsils are at risk. What does a papilloma in the throat look like? This is a spherical seal with a fine-grained surface (looks like a wart), which is raised on a narrow or thick process - a leg. In children, neoplasms have a pink color. This is due to the predominance of connective tissue elements. In adult patients, due to the predominance of epithelial structures, the color of the papilloma in the throat is white or dirty gray. In the case of the appearance of a whole "spread" of papillomas, papillomatosis is diagnosed.

Symptoms of papilloma in the throat

The symptomatology of this pathological process is based on a violation of the two main functions of the larynx - respiratory and phonatory.

Clinically, papilloma in the throat manifests as:

  • increasing hoarseness, which can reach aphonia (complete loss of voice);
  • difficulty breathing;
  • prolonged cough;
  • repeated respiratory infections.

The manifestation of symptoms depends on the localization of papillomas. If a child is diagnosed with a papilloma in the throat, the symptoms will be more pronounced than in an adult.

Is it contagious or papilloma in the throat?

A papilloma in the throat tends to grow. Natural questions: what is the danger of such formations, contagious or papilloma in the throat? Serious complications of the disease include the blocking of the respiratory tract (asphyxia), as well as the possibility of the growth becoming a malignant tumor. The papilloma virus, like any infection, can be transmitted from an infected person. In the case of papilloma in the throat - by air-droplet.

How to treat papilloma in the throat?

Despite the many methods of treatment for throat papilloma (about 50), modern medicine is unable to offer a radical way to get rid of the pathology. The main issue remains unresolved - the problem of relapses. Therefore, the main goal of treatment today is long-term remission. From this point of view, the dilemma is: "papilloma in the throat - what to do?" It is solved comprehensively. Options for surgical intervention (removal using a laser or ultrasound) in combination with antiviral therapy are offered.

There is a prevention of diseases associated with the human papillomavirus. This is the HPV vaccination. It is recommended for adolescents - boys and girls, starting from the age of 9. If an adult - a man or a woman, was not vaccinated in adolescence - it is recommended to get such a vaccination to protect themselves from cancer.
