Laboratory diagnostics
The following laboratory tests are required to determine a correct diagnosis.
An urologist may prescribe the following laboratory tests:
- clinical urine analysis, urine culture (in case of suspected inflammatory diseases of the urinary system);
- blood chemistry for creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (in case of the suspected chronic renal disease);
- examination of prostate discharge (in case of the suspected prostatitis);
- urogenital swab examination (in case of suspected urethritis or sexually-transmitted infection);
- PSA blood test (to exclude a malignant prostate tumor);
- spermogram (in case of the suspected infertility).
Instrumental diagnostics
Instrumental diagnostics that allows detecting or confirming a preliminary diagnosis plays an important role in the diagnostics of urological disorders.
Main instrumental diagnostic techniques include: ultrasound, endoscopy, computerized tomography and MRI.
