Sports fans visiting various sports events have probably long paid attention to athletes with multicolored tapes applied to their bodies. Professional sport is associated with heavy physical exertion and frequent injuries. Multicolored tapes are called kinesiology tapes and help to prevent injuries and achieve the desired result. The technique of using tapes is called kinesiology taping (KT).
There are different types of tape application depending on the KT purpose.
As a result of this effect, pain is alleviated, microcirculation is improved and lymph outflow is enhanced, which helps reduce swelling at the tissue inflammation site. Two physiological mechanisms account for the KT analgesic effect.
KT applied to the surface of the joint can act as a soft cut making it indispensable for use in orthopedics and physical rehabilitation.
Indications include:
injuries of the musculoskeletal system, the consequences of orthopedic surgery, closed soft tissue injuries, posture disorders and scoliosis, flat feet and other feet deformities, osteoarthritis, arthritis, degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the spine, paralysis, paresis, tunnel syndromes, compression-schemic neuropathy, myofascial syndromes, lymphostasis.
Contraindications:
trophic ulcers, open wounds, eczema, allergic reactions to acrylic, the first trimester of pregnancy, xeroderma (parchment skin), individual intolerance.
The KT physiological outcome depends on the appropriate tape application. Therefore, it is better to consult a specialist for selecting the type of KT application depending on the disease or injury.
