The patch test is used at Dobrobut clinic chain to reveal the irritant that provokes the contact dermatitis: applications with allergens that are the most common cause of the dermatitis (eczema) are applied on the skin.
A plaster with small amount of chemical substance is applied on the skin of the back, in the area between the shoulder blades. The primary result is assessed in 24–48 hours and in 30 minutes after the removal of the plaster. The test results are reassessed in 48 hours after the application, and then in 3 or 4 days, and, if necessary, in 7 days.
In case the patient has a reaction on contactant allergens or an allergy to dental materials, there is a local reaction on the skin areas that have been in contact with the allergens.
Before the PATCH test it is necessary to discontinue glucocorticoids, antihistamines administration 2 weeks before the procedure, creams, lotions and sprays – 1 week before the procedure. Administration of antihistamines is not included in the contraindication for the procedure.
The skin of the back has to be clean to avoid a false-positive reaction: without rash and redness.
