How to become our patient

Diet in case of ischemic heart disease (cardiac angina)

Balanced diet in case of heart diseases is the base for successful rehabilitation, strengthening of the heart muscle, reduction of the risk of recurrences. The diet No. 10 used in medical facilities and recommended to the patients of cardiac departments was developed long time ago.

What you should eat if you have heart problems

Even if you do not have a diagnosis by a cardiologist yet, and the first uncomfortable sensations in the anatomical heart region have manifested recently, it is worth harmonizing your diet. In this case, you will get the substantial support of the heart, reduce the risk of development of serious cardiac pathologies. What you should eat if you have heart problems periodically or constantly.

  • You should exclude coffee, chocolate and strong black tea, energy drinks, any sweet carbonated drinks. They load the cardiac muscle too much and make the heart beat faster.
  • You should reduce the amount of utilized salt, as it retains water in the body, and the heart has to function in an accelerated regime, transferring a significant amount of blood through the blood stream.
  • You should entirely exclude sausages, fast food, pre-made food, marinaded foods, salted foods. They contain not only a significant amount of salt, but also the chemical additives that affect the heart functioning.
  • You should have fish and seafood, lean meat, milk and fermented milk products, fruit and vegetables in any form in your diet.
  • Your meals should be split: you should eat small portions of food every 3 hours. Abdominal distention, overfilled stomach put pressure on vegetative nerves that are responsible for the stable heart functioning.

What to eat if you have cardiac angina

Cardiac angina, or ischemic heart disease is the most unexplored pathology in cardiology. However, doctors know exactly that balanced diet of such patients guarantees the long-lasting remission. What to eat if you have cardiac angina:

  • coarse-grained bread;
  • buckwheat and millet cereals;
  • boiled rice with the addition of dried apricots and raisins;
  • laminaria;
  • fresh and baked fruit (bananas are recommended to eat daily);
  • seawater or fresh-water fish, you should choose fat types;
  • any dietetic meat (turkey, veal, game meat, chicken, lamb, coney);
  • skimmed milk and its derivatives; cheeses with low fat content;
  • vegetables in any form.

It is extremely important to reduce the patient’s weight in case of such a disease, as obesity is one of the factors provoking cardiac angina. Basically, general recommendations on the diet give the possibility to normalize the metabolism and lose weight. All the more, the diet in case of the ischemic heart disease implies the rejection of sweets, bakery, alcohol drinks.

Heart diseases, independently of the type of the developed pathology and its form, implies the rejection of certain food products. At that, doctors affirm that there can be no allowances: only the strict adherence to the nutritionist’s recommendations together with the therapy will help to avoid major complications and life-threatening conditions.

How the diet is restricted in case of heart diseases:

  • no animal fats, including butter, as they are the factors provoking the formation of cholesterol plaques that clot the vessels and make the heart to function in an accelerated regime, “to the max”;
  • alcohol is strongly forbidden, cocktails and beer included.
  • renunciation of flour-based food and the products that contain fast carbs;
  • chocolate, sweets, lemonades, desserts are banned and can be replaced with honey, dried fruit, marshmallow, pastille.

It is important not to self-treat, but to undergo a cardiological check-up. Firstly, a specialist will determine a diagnosis, secondly, he/she will refer you to a consultation of a specialized doctor, in particular, a nutritionist. If a patient needs to lose weight, a doctor will help to determine the level of physical activities, their type, as many types of activities are forbidden in case of heart diseases. Only such a complex influence on the body and a strong heart functioning support allows for managing diseases and preventing serious problems in future, and probably entering the period of the long-lasting remission.

Consultations by cardiologist and nutritionist will be useful for all the people over 40, even if they have no symptoms and heart functioning problems.
